I have a 1920s Koken barber chair that I have had for many years but want to clean it up. It is in amazing shape, original leather in perfect condition, very little rust, just grungy. Hydraulics still work, but gurgles a bit . I would like to remove the top of the chair and take the base to someone to service and refill it, but I don’t know what type of place to take it to. Please help.

Vicky, The seat should lift up. There might be a screw or two holding it down. Once you get the seat out of the way, In the middle of the seat area, not the cushion, there should be a hole.Add hydrolic oil, non-detergent,(very important) 1/2 cup at a time,Then work the pump several times. Be very careful not to over fill. Email me or call [email protected]. Phone 270304-6943 I would like to have all the info on your chair,Mod #, serial#Or any Number that are under the seat cushion.

    Hi Thomas –

I am trying to fill my chair with hydraulic oil, which is actually a 1924 Emil J. Paidar barber chair (I am guessing it’s pretty similar to the Koken). What kind of device should I use to get the oil into the hole? And it is covered by a fill nut from what I can see. Maybe I will post a picture once I am able. Thanks!!

    Cheers,
    John
