Berninghaus pump handle works backwards

Looking for some help. Berninghaus Hercules pump handle, pumps and releases to the rear of the chair as opposed to pumping forward while standing behind the chair. Any help would be appreciated. Iv’e not encountered this issue before. Thank you, jeff
